Start tackling your issues today

JDO Counselling is proud to help people tackle their issues in a calm, sensitive setting.

I know that the same approach doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why I take time to get to know you and what is troubling you before I find a therapy that best works for you. Sessions are available via Zoom, face-to-face or even in a ‘walk and talk’ scenario, where we can discuss your issues while walking in a place that you feel comfortable with around the Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield areas. There are a lot of different approaches. But here are three of the most popular that I use to identify issues, manage problems and find a long-term solution so that you can get the most out of life.

CBT

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a practical talking therapy that can help you to manage problems. The aim is to encourage you to recognise how your thoughts can affect your feelings and behaviour and try to encourage a more positive thought process so that your feelings and behaviour are, in turn, improved.

CBT combines a cognitive approach (examining your thoughts) with a behavioural approach (the things you do), which is where the name comes from. When you break down negative thoughts, they become easier to manage. It is a more practical and solution focussed counselling option that has exploded in popularity in recent years.

Person-centred therapy

You lead this type of therapy. The aim is to encourage you to express yourself by explaining the issues that have brought you to therapy.

I will help you to explore your own issues, beliefs and behaviours so that you become more self-aware of the issues that are bothering you. By identifying these issues, you can begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings and start to do more in terms of improving how you think and feel.

Psychodynamic counselling

This type of talking therapy focuses on the past. It centres on how situations and events that have happened to you can lead to feelings that will affect your present and future.

Any kind of situation can lead to negative thoughts and core beliefs about yourself. In this type of therapy, delving into that past can shed light on why we behave and think in the here and now. You may have had a difficult childhood, a horrible event or trauma that has happened to you. All these examples can contribute to your negative feelings. Identifying these can therefore help that healing process and flip your mindset so that when other situations come about, you can start to think and feel more positively about them.

"I came across James in lockdown offering counselling sessions. After having many counselling sessions elsewhere and not finding the correct person for my needs I gave James a call .

Straight away I felt comfortable talking about my problems and felt James understand me from the off .

Lockdown was hard for us all but having James check in on me and our weekly chats really helped me .

James is by far the best therapist I’d spoken to and I highly recommend him .

Thank you James I’ll forever be grateful I found you."
